The drive to Jerusalem
Jerusalem is more than twice as far from the airport as Tel Aviv is, and the drive has one feature the short runs do not: an 800-metre climb from the Sha’ar HaGai foothills up to the city, which sits around 815 m. The old Motza curve and the Shoresh stretch used to be the bottleneck; the Harel Tunnel and a straightened Motza bridge, built between 2013 and 2017, took most of that out. What is left is ordinary traffic — and the approaches into Jerusalem can still turn a 45-minute run into well over an hour.

About Jerusalem
Jerusalem is a different kind of run from the metro-ring cities — more than twice the distance, with an 800-metre climb up from the foothills. The train is a serious alternative on this route: it leaves from under Terminal 3 and reaches Jerusalem–Yitzhak Navon in about 22–26 minutes with no change, roughly every half hour. It does not run on Shabbat, and it leaves you at one station on the edge of the city rather than at your door.
